Quite a few of our readers not only have an interest in all things crafty but also in using recycled materials. Today’s post is all about makin’ something new from something old! Check out this project from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art: Recycle LACMA. Did you ever wonder if a museum keeps its collection forever and ever? From the project’s website:

“On January 14th, 2009 the Los Angeles County Museum of Art announced
that it was deaccessioning more than 100 items from its costumes and tex-
tiles collection. Once carefully collected, catalogued, and cared for, these
items have now been cast back out in to the world. What will happen to them?
Like any other useless item, they will need to be recycled or disposed of.

Recycle LACMA is a project of Los Angeles-based artist Robert Fontenot. At
three separate auctions he purchased over 50 items deaccessioned by LACMA
and is now trying to find new uses for these otherwise unwanted items.

Although each item has not yet been used, each item can have a use.”

For more information about each item’s provenance and to see what new uses Robert envisioned for each piece check out the Recycle LACMA website here!

who doesn’t love a good scratch off!  when those crazy car ads arrive in the mail saying my discount on a new car will be revealed by scratching off a circle of flaky silver paint….i just can’t resist!
this lovely idea comes direct to us from mitsy at artmind. she uses scratch offs in her etsy orders to surprise customers with discounts…cute!  you can find the whole tutorial right here. we think this idea would be perfect for invites to your next potluck.  each invitee scratches off the invite to find what dish they should bring! fun!
you should follow her blog here for more great tutorials!
